The Sex Lives of the Founders Part I

This fellow is Gouverneur Morris He wrote this :
"We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union"

In addition to that little jewel, he's the one who actually wrote the Constitution of the United States .... I mean he sat down and took pen in hand and wrote it. Now, a lot of people kicked in on this project, Morris was the one that was putting the words on the paper. He got a leg knocked off in a carriage accident, but it didn't slow him down. He was a notorious "Rake".
Married, single, Morris didn't care, if it had estrogen in it he was interested.

That's one founder who has more in common with Bill Clinton than George Bush.

Tomorrow I'll use our money to advance my story.

Here's the Google page for Gouverneur Morris if you want to have a better look.

John Adams VS Bill O'reilly

PBS re-ran their American Experience on John and Abigail Adams last week, and I caught the re-re-run of it over the week-end.

It jarred me into writing about something that has been rolling around in my head for awhile, namely what would Fox News and Bill O'Reilly do with John Adams ? Poor ole' Adams. he knew he was gonna get shafted by history .... IE : There ain't no Adams Memorial on the National Mall. No Adams statue parked among the daffodils in Washington DC. Never the less we own John a big debt of gratitude. The list is long of the things we own the 2nd President, but the item I have in mind is his defense of the British troops involved in the "Boston Massacre". Consider what he said about his defense of these men :
"The Part I took in Defence of Cptn. Preston and the Soldiers, procured me Anxiety, and Obloquy enough. It was, however, one of the most gallant, generous, manly and disinterested Actions of my whole Life, and one of the best Pieces of Service I ever rendered my Country. Judgment of Death against those Soldiers would have been as foul a Stain upon this Country as the Executions of the Quakers or Witches, anciently. As the Evidence was, the Verdict of the Jury was exactly right." --John Adams

Those British troops were scared, cold, and out numbered by what was surely a drunken mob, and like most situations like that, things got out of hand. Adams took on their defense, because he was convinced that the rule of law was our only hope.
I wonder what Nancy Grace and O'Reilly would do with Mr. Adams, and his defense of these men today?

In the interview, Cheney also said he doesn't spend any time worrying about how the public or the media view him. When pressed to react to personal criticism from people with whom he has worked before, Cheney said: "Well, I'm vice president and they're not."

Attention Tree Huggers Everywhere

Tree Hugging on the Avenue of the Giants

Evil Pacific Lumber Declares Bankruptcy
From easong's Kos diary:
In the continuing story of how a Texas scumbag corporation named Maxxam has planned to destroy hundreds of acres of old growth redwood forest for a neat profit, the plot has entered the final phase -- trying to get a bankruptcy court to annul the provisions of a habitat protection agreement hammered out several years ago by Senator Feinstein and state water boards.
easong's post with links on where to write

Here's the Houston Chronicle story:
Maxxam's Pacific Lumber subsidiary has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, saying the limits on logging imposed by California water quality regulators sharply cut its revenues.

This is a long and sad story from the era of Reagan and the corporate raiders.. Pacific was once a family owned business that was careful with it's employees and it's stands of lumber. One of it's real assets was the company pension plan, which was "Over Funded" . Then it was bought out by these ass-holes from Texas, this is part of the same crowd that brought us George Bush. They looted the pension fund, and set about blackmailing the State of California over the Redwood Trees they owned. These trees are the last stands of Redwoods that are not protected from the chain saw. Maxxam thinks they should be converted into decks, patio furniture, and paper with green ink on it.
Of all the Redwoods that ever lived, these are the last ones we can still save.

January 2007 the Global Climate Change Dam Has Broken

UPDATE- 1/22/07
Here's the USCAP Web Page and today's press release :
Major Businesses and Environmental Leaders Unite to Call for Swift Action on Global Climate Change

You had to be paying attention, but it's happened. Last week we learned that EXXON/MOBIL have dropped their funding of The Competitive Enterprise Institute.
It perked up my ears when I read that. So, I've been listening for more to come down the pike, and it's really about to start flowing. This came over the wires on Friday :

Industry signals Bush to do more on warming
10 companies join activist groups in calling for caps on carbon emissions

WASHINGTON - Major corporations and environmental groups on Friday announced what they called an "unprecedented alliance" to push for quicker action against global warming — urging lawmakers to pass mandatory curbs on carbon emissions, in contrast to President Bush's voluntary approach.

These two events are directly related, to each other, and to the many reports that are flowing in now. These guys are not dummies. They know the jig is up. Inhofe is out of his seat in the Senate Chair. He was their paid stooge in the Senate. It's a whole new Ball Game on this issue. This subject is about move up the list on voters concerns.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not breaking out the wine for toasting till dawn. But this month is one for a bit of optimism. The ground is moving under people's feet ....... These are the moments when things become possible.

The post below is off the wire tonight. I took the whole post off the Globe's site. [ Which I try to avoid, but this one is important and I want people to see it. ]
Another reason why EXXON pulled their money :

Global Warming: The Final Verdict

A study by the world's leading experts says global warming will happen faster and be more devastating than previously thought
Robin McKie, science editor
Sunday January 21, 2007

Observer
Global warming is destined to have a far more destructive and earlier impact than previously estimated, the most authoritative report yet produced on climate change will warn next week.

A draft copy of the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, obtained by The Observer, shows the frequency of devastating storms - like the ones that battered Britain last week - will increase dramatically. Sea levels will rise over the century by around half a metre; snow will disappear from all but the highest mountains; deserts will spread; oceans become acidic, leading to the destruction of coral reefs and atolls; and deadly heatwaves will become more prevalent.

The impact will be catastrophic, forcing hundreds of millions of people to flee their devastated homelands, particularly in tropical, low-lying areas, while creating waves of immigrants whose movements will strain the economies of even the most affluent countries.

'The really chilling thing about the IPCC report is that it is the work of several thousand climate experts who have widely differing views about how greenhouse gases will have their effect. Some think they will have a major impact, others a lesser role. Each paragraph of this report was therefore argued over and scrutinised intensely. Only points that were considered indisputable survived this process. This is a very conservative document - that's what makes it so scary,' said one senior UK climate expert.

Climate concerns are likely to dominate international politics next month. President Bush is to make the issue a part of his state of the union address on Wednesday while the IPCC report's final version is set for release on 2 February in a set of global news conferences.

Although the final wording of the report is still being worked on, the draft indicates that scientists now have their clearest idea so far about future climate changes, as well as about recent events. It points out that:

· 12 of the past 13 years were the warmest since records began;

· ocean temperatures have risen at least three kilometres beneath the surface;

· glaciers, snow cover and permafrost have decreased in both hemispheres;

· sea levels are rising at the rate of almost 2mm a year;

· cold days, nights and frost have become rarer while hot days, hot nights and heatwaves have become more frequent.

And the cause is clear, say the authors: 'It is very likely that [man-made] greenhouse gas increases caused most of the average temperature increases since the mid-20th century,' says the report.

To date, these changes have caused global temperatures to rise by 0.6C. The most likely outcome of continuing rises in greenhouses gases will be to make the planet a further 3C hotter by 2100, although the report acknowledges that rises of 4.5C to 5C could be experienced. Ice-cap melting, rises in sea levels, flooding, cyclones and storms will be an inevitable consequence.

Past assessments by the IPCC have suggested such scenarios are 'likely' to occur this century. Its latest report, based on sophisticated computer models and more detailed observations of snow cover loss, sea level rises and the spread of deserts, is far more robust and confident. Now the panel writes of changes as 'extremely likely' and 'almost certain'.

And in a specific rebuff to sceptics who still argue natural variation in the Sun's output is the real cause of climate change, the panel says mankind's industrial emissions have had five times more effect on the climate than any fluctuations in solar radiation. We are the masters of our own destruction, in short.

There is some comfort, however. The panel believes the Gulf Stream will go on bathing Britain with its warm waters for the next 100 years. Some researchers have said it could be disrupted by cold waters pouring off Greenland's melting ice sheets, plunging western Europe into a mini Ice Age, as depicted in the disaster film The Day After Tomorrow.

The report reflects climate scientists' growing fears that Earth is nearing the stage when carbon dioxide rises will bring irreversible change to the planet. 'We are seeing vast sections of Antarctic ice disappearing at an alarming rate,' said climate expert Chris Rapley, in a phone call to The Observer from the Antarctic Peninsula last week. 'That means we can expect to see sea levels rise at about a metre a century from now on - and that will have devastating consequences.'

However, there is still hope, said Peter Cox of Exeter University. 'We are like alcoholics who have got as far as admitting there is a problem. It is a start. Now we have got to start drying out - which means reducing our carbon output.'
Guardian Unlimited © Guardian News and Media Limited 2007

This came out Friday too :

U.N. panel to step up warnings on climate

OSLO (Reuters) - A U.N. climate panel is set to give its strongest warning yet that human use of fossil fuels is stoking global warming, informed sources said on Friday.

A draft of the report by 2,500 scientists says it is "very likely" that human activities are the main cause of warming in the past 50 years, strengthening a conclusion in their last study in 2001 that the human link was "likely."

From the NewsHour Interview:

The people who are now sacrificing are, you know, the volunteer military - the Army and the U.S. Marines and their families. They're the only people who are actually sacrificing anything at this point.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Well, you know, I think a lot of people are in this fight. I mean, they sacrifice peace of mind when they see the terrible images of violence on TV every night. I mean, we've got a fantastic economy here in the United States, but yet, when you think about the psychology of the country, it is somewhat down because of this war.

"TIME to PLAY 'B' SIDES"

I picked out my music, one of the great songs of the 20th Century ............. It's by these guys, it's called "LET THE DAY BEGIN" .....

The words :

Here's to the babies in a brand new world
Here's to the beauty of the stars
Here's to the travellers on the open road
Here's to the dreamers in the bars
Here's to the teachers in the crowded rooms
Here's to the workers in the fields
Here's to the preachers of the sacred words
Here's to the drivers at the wheel
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin
Here's to the winners of the human race
Here's to the losers in the game
Here's to the soldiers of the bitter war
Here's to the wall that bears their names
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day start
Here's to the doctors and their healing work
Here's to the loved ones in their care
Here's to the strangers on the streets tonight
Here's to the lonely everywhere
Here's to the wisdom from the mouths of babes
Here's to the lions in the cage
Here's to the struggles of the silent war
Here's to the closing of the age.
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day start

I SPENT MY WHOLE LIFE in the 20TH CENTURY

[Drilling Seismic Lines out of Coalville, Utah spring 1979]

I'm the guy in the red barrett. That's "Dirty Larry" from Round-Up, Montana in the goofy truckers hat with the antennas on it. B. J. Walker from Jackson, Mississippi is that fat "Cracker" on the left. The living Greek Statue on the right is "Troy Grinn" out of Ogden, Utah.
Troy was the best drill-helper we ever saw, that kid was smart. worked like monk, and always was smiling.

Behind Troy is a :
Mission #3115 Down-Hole Rock Hammer ..... see it leaning up against that gravel basket behind Troy ? That piece of steel weighs 120 lbs. It would cut ANY piece of rock in the Rocky Mts. of Utah when it was screwed on to the front of this :

We "Slammed Steel" in some real National Geographic country ...... Walking through the woods, and there in a clearing at 8,500 ft. was this thing at 7a.m. waiting for you .

So I'm on a "Hog-Back" south of Nephi, Utah that spring and we walk up to the drill. And this helper of mine had the weed. His job was to :
A. Build a fire
B. Roll a joint

While I walked over to the rig and got it warmed-up. Which, on that morning was gonna take 20 min. On our west, was the whole valley just south of the Nephi, maybe 20 miles. Today it's part of I-15 into Salt Lake. We could see the traffic way down below, ... all "Ant-Like".

And at that moment, I began yelling at the drivers 7 miles away ... down in that valley. Telling them that we were up here looking for their gas-o-line, and to put the " Petal to the Metal ". I went on for 5 min. about Iran, and gas prices, and America .... Poor little David my helper was beginning to wonder how he was gonna get a crazy man off the mountain.

I looked right in his eye, and I told that kid to remember every moment of that morning, because in both our whole lives we would never be more live than we were on that spring morning in central Utah.

I was right ..... I was never more alive than that morning in Utah, 28 springs ago.

Think about it, here I am 28 years ago. looking for gas-o-line in Utah, and here we are today fightin' for the biggest pool in the world of the stuff .

We are fighting a war to preserve the 20TH Century, and we're already 7 years into the 21ST

El Nino, Global Climate Change, and Bi-Polar Logic

This is a twig from the apricot tree in the backyard .... The inner parts of this twig are green, the sap is flowing. Daffodils are coming-up in the flower beds.

Recently, there have been the usual "Wacky Weather" stories about our winter weather ...... Some ass-hole at NOAA was on NBC Nightly News last week assuring me that El Nino was the reason for this winter's weather. Then. yesterday this little gem came out from the National Climatic Data Center :
The warmest year ever

El Nino is not causing my a apricot tree to think it's March. El Nino isn't the one who is fooling my daffodils. The climate here is changing period. El Nino is piggy backing on it, not replacing it.

But alas ... We have a Bi-Polar Discussion in this country ...... two or more things cannot happen at the same time, or it would confuse our pretty little heads.

Tell me what the plants and animals are doing at your house.

Tomorrow's over night low is forecast to be 14 degrees.

SOUL KITCHEN.... The DOORS

Well, the clock says its time to close now
I guess Id better go now
Id really like to stay here all night
The cars crawl past all stuffed with eyes
Street lights share their hollow glow
Your brain seems bruised with numb surprise
Still one place to go
Still one place to go
Let me sleep all night in your soul kitchen
Warm my mind near your gentle stove
Turn me out and Ill wander baby
Stumblin in the neon groves
Well, your fingers weave quick minarets
Speak in secret alphabets
I light another cigarette
Learn to forget, learn to forget
Learn to forget, learn to forget
Let me sleep all night in your soul kitchen
Warm my mind near your gentle stove
Turn me out and Ill wander baby
Stumblin in the neon groves
Well the clock says its time to close now
I know I have to go now
I really want to stay here
All night, all night, all night

The Arenal Volcano

My friend Jose' owns the Yellow Coco Lodge on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. I was trying to think of something to practice with and the image of a volcano popped into my head.

Where's All This Going ?

I sure wish when "They" picked out the word "Blog" ..... "They" had done a better job. I'm sorry, I just don't care for the word. It just ain't quite there. But I wasn't around when "They" were doing the picking so it's just water over the dam.

If you're sitting in a glass box somewhere, trying to figure out the yelping mob we call the Blog-O-Sphere [ I really hate that word ] , it's the unedited pack of opinions, a flock of electronic protozoans following mindlessly through Senator Steven's Tubing. But, somethings a foot, and I think I spotted it.

There's a class of people emerging in the Tubing that are the complete package :

Researcher
Writer
Electronic Artist
Code Breaker

A complete package for the WWW. I stumbled on one of them this past week, and reading him and watching him crystalized this for me. Talent tells and it's these people, who have this complete package, .... we will be watching more and more. Mainly because they're so damn much fun, damn smart, and damn passionate.

Now when these kind of people meet, interesting things can happen .... The electrons start flowing back and forth Here's a prime example :
